Duccio di Buoninsegna, is a famous Italian pre-Renaissance painter, born ca.
1260 in Siena, Tuscany, he worked on many paintings, most of which are
related to religious matters,
Duccio most famous works are the Rucellai Madonna (1285) for the Basilica of
Santa Maria Novella, and the legendary Maestà, (1308-1311), an altarpiece
containing many different paintings, for the Siena Cathedral,
Duccio died in Siena in ca. 1319, at the age of 60.
